Self Preparation Tips

This post is for all those students who are preparing for self.

First of all, don’t think much that it’s difficult to crack Gate without coaching. Coaching is just 10%, rest is your efforts. I’m not saying coaching are not important and if you’ve enough money, you can go and join on line or classroom coaching. But if you’ve decided to prepare for self, no problem. Here I’m sharing strategy and link of videos and books you should follow.

1). Mathematics

Gate questions are very basic types. So, you don’t need to go in depth of this subject. Covering from notes and previous years questions will be sufficient.

2). Network Theory

One of the most basic, easy, high scoring and most important subject.

NPTEL Lectures – Network Theory Lectures By S.C. Dutta Roy 

Watch 1-33 lectures and then 51 lectures for Gate. For other exams like ESE and other PSUs, you can refer all 52 videos.

(*Better refer only “LearnGateFree” lectures if you’ve time constrain. No need to go for nptel as they take time to build concept.)

Refer “Alexander sadiku” Book for Network Theory. Also, I’ve uploaded 200 questions with solution in Question Bank Section. Download them.

3). Signal & System

Very basics and most important subject as it’s concepts are used in other subjects too. “Signal & System by Openhiem” is must read books for this subject.

4). Electronics Devices And Circuits

Refer NPTEL lectures by S. Karmalkar Sir and study from Book Solid State Devices by Donald Naeman. This is the complete Package for EDC. You don’t need to refer any coaching notes for this subject. After completing videos and book, you’ll be able to solve most of the previous Years Problems.

 

5). Analog Electronics

If you’re a beginner, refer Video lectures By Behzad Razavi Click Here To Watch and then refer book “Microelectronics” By Naeman. I’ve uploaded mine notes too. They too are good. So, all these three things makes it complete package for Analog Electronics.

 

6). Digital Electronics

Watch lectures by Neso Academy Click here to watch and refer books either “Digital Electronics By Tocci” Or “Digital Electronics By Morris Mano”. This completes your Digital Electronics.

 

7). Analog & Digital Communication

Refer coaching institute notes for this subject and whenever you find a topic which you can’t understand, then search on Youtube with that topic name. Refer “Analog and Digital Communication By B.P. Lathi” and must Solve questions from Schaum Series Book.

8). Microprocessor

Refer coaching notes for this subject. No need to go for book for this subject as hardly one question appears from this subject. But don’t leave this because question asked from this subject is like a piece of cake. One marks counts a lot in competitive exam. If you can understand notes, that is more than sufficient for this subject.

 

9). Control System

Refer Videos provided by engiTech Click here to watch and make your notes. Refer Book “Control System by Ogata” or “By Kuo”.

10). Electromagnetic Field Theory

Refer Videos by IIT kanpur Click here to watch and refer Book “Electromagnetics By Sadiku”. Refer book for this subject very seriously as this subject is very basic and basics always require a great patience to understand but question asked from this subject are very simple once you’re good in your basics.

 

11). Aptitude

No need to refer any book for this subject and not even notes. Whenever you get bored from doing Technical, just solve previous years questions for a mood change. That is more than enough. Questions asked are very simple.

12). English

It’s not worth to refer any book for this subject. Refer only previous years questions if you want. That’s it.

Note – All notes and book are available here. You can download them. Don’t collect too much of material. Whatever you’ve, try to understand and build concept from that. Wherever only notes are required, I’ve explicitly mentioned. And for rest of the subjects, you should refer coaching notes as a reference to study from book.

Test Series First focus on Syllabus, notes and books. I don’t find them very useful but you can take one or two institute test series to get comfortable to solve questions within time limits and to judge your preparation.

Most important – Previous Years questions are must for each subjects. Don’t even think to skip them. Try to solve them at least 4 -5 times. You can download them or you can buy book for that.

Make your own neat and clean notes even if you’ve coaching notes photocopy. Never depend on spoon feeding. Ask as many doubts as possible from seniors no matter how silly is your doubt. Don’t be ashamed. And you always need a mentor. So, make someone your senior as mentor and take their suggestion time to time.
